hello all,
not exactly new to linux but fairly new to hardware problems.

i have an old Gateway Solo 9100 laptop running redhat 9. the only thing i haven't been able to resolve is the sound card.

looking at tutorials i'm told it needs a YAMAHA OPL3-SAX driver and that it is aparently an ISA device.

some tutorials have mentioned config the kernal, others just show setting in some unnamed config file.

what i really want to know is does some one have/know of a relatively simple to follow TUTORIAL on solving this problem seeing as i'm not comfortable with jumping into the kernal witout sound directions.

i have a feeling because nothing reconizes the card i have to config it, can someone help with how to do this? thank you.

The file that you want to work with is:

/etc/modules.conf

Here is a breakdown of the sound system. Just add these lines to the modules.conf .

alias sound opl3sa2
options opl3sa2 io=0x370 mss_io=0x530 irq=9 dma=0,1 mpu_io=0x330
alias midi opl3
options opl3 io=0x338

Note that all of the "0" are zeroes.
