Redhat 9.0 modem problem
 
Hi,

i'm new with linux. ive already installed Redhat 9.0 distro on my laptop.
all seems well on making connection to the internet.
Using Ethernet LAN.
but my problem is with the dialup connection.
many say that use the KPPP. i've tried that but it could query/detect my modem.
i've try link the /dev/modem to /dev/ttyS0 but "modem busy"
before this i use windows xp. seems ok.
i read a lot of article regarding this matter but nothing helps.
i heard that winmodem isnt for linux.(linmodem.org) i read all the article but i still cant figure out the problem.

i'm using winmodem.

You have a winmodem (not a real modem as it requires the cpu to do the modem stuff) and lots of companies are in bed with Microsoft and don't furnish drivers.

I suggest buying a cheap serial port external modem because all of those are real modems.

Otherwise, good luck in finding a driver for your winmodem.

the lucent modems are at least half real, and you
can get those for $10.
