Redhat 6.2 in my really old compaq

Hi!!!

I've a really old Compaq armada computer with:

166 Intel Processor
32 RAM
CD-Rom 4x
2GB HD.
2 megas Video Ram

It's working nicely with Redhat 7.3 (although, really slow), but as you can see, I've too little space in my HD. I've tried then to install Redhat 6.2, which has a pretty tight install of 300 megas. That would be great, but, during the boot, it simply freezes at the line "loading pcmia" or something like that...

Is there anything I can do about it? Or, maybe switch to another small distro?

Thanks in advance

I too have a really old armada (a 7370dmt I believe), the annoying thing about these laptops is that they only have 32mb of ram and thats what slows them down so much, and its impossible to find any more ram.
Anyhow you could try Vector linux:
http://www.vectorlinux.com

Its slackware based (slackware is notorious for being a dificult type of distro) but they seem to have managed to make it easier to use. Im not sure if they're having problems with their download server just now, but you could bookmark them and check them later. Vector linux is compatible with almost all slackware package so you can go to www. slackware.com to get more programs if you just downloaded the basic install.

Thanks a lot Andrew Glass

You are definitely right about the RAM memory. I've found somes, as well harddisks at www.ebay.com

Unfortunately, it's not many who ship those things to outside US or Canada
I've bookmarked Vector Linux and I will give it a shot.

Thanks again
