Hi,

welcome to LQ. Is there any particular reason you want to install Red Hat 9? It is an ancient and unsupported distribution: release in 2003! Are you open to running something current and supported?

Cheers,

Evo2.

First of all Thank u for ur reply evo2

I am new to Linux, but very exited to use it.

Particularly i like Red Hat distributions and i found RH 9 on net.

As u said it is old ,please suggest me a new good distribution
. Especially i am a java fellow Love to develop applications in Java and C. And i Also want some server capabilities for my system and database facilities.

More than this I have to install Linux as one of my Os rather than Virtual machine for My Laptop

The free version of Red Hat is available at the site below.

If you are not necessarily looking for a distribution oriented to running servers, check the link below for some options. If you scroll down the page, you will see on the right a heading "Page Hit Ranking" and a list of their most popular with links to each:

Yes, it will, along with pretty much ANY modern Linux distribution.

Any current Linux should install.

Fedora doesn't come with various components which are patented in the USA, which can be annoying because you have to get them yourself; it's quicker to get Korora, which is a Fedora installer that comes with everything you need. Fedora is only supported for a year, so you do need to re-install regularly.

Mint and PCLinuxOS are very good. If you get the long-term support version of Mint (currently version 13), that will last until 2017. PCLinuxOS is what we call rolling-release. It doesn't have versions, but is continually upgraded: update your system once a month and it will last as long as your computer.

Look at the reviews on this site and those linked to by http://distrowatch.gdsw.at/ to learn more about them.

Fedora 19 will install on that
Warning:
but a word of warning about using fedora
It is a very fast passed Research and Development operating system

if you DO NOT want to fix things from time to time
and LEARN how to fix things when they DO and WILL break

Then fedora might not be a good choice

Now if you LIKE and WANT to "get your hands dirty" and fix things
-- like keeping a "classic" 1950 / 60's ford car running---

if you LIKE and WANT to tinker
and LIKE to solve problems and find solving problems and fixing then FUN

then fedora would be a good choice

BUT
if you want a "windows" replacement
fedora is NOT it
nor is CentOS6.4 or the NOT FREE RHEL 6.4

A lot of people like Linux Mint for new to linux users
that or OpenSUSE
both are good Operating Systems
