Red Hat 9 on HP Pavilion n5240 - Display Problem

I am having problems getting my display to work properly on my HP Pavillion n5240 laptop after installing Red Hat Linux 9. The OS recognizes my s3 Savage/IX integrated video alright but cant seem to recognize the actual laptop display. The display is currently running on Generic and as a result the GUI only appears on a central part of the screen. There is a surrounding black frame about 2cm on the screen that is not being used. I attempted to fix the problem by setting the resolution and the Dpi without success in the System Settings -> Display. This is my first time ever using Linux and I would greatly appreciate any help that could be provided. Thanks =)

You could pick VESA as the display driver and 1024 x 768 24bit should make it go full screen. That is my failsafe settings on my ze4230.

I managed to fix my problem by changing my XF86Config file and the backup XF86Config file (cant remember the exact name but its obvious and in the same X11 folder) located:

/etc/X11/XF86Config

There I typed "1024x768" before "800x600". For some odd reason I had to change it in both the XF86Config and its backup file. Another thing I adjusted was the display type in System Settings ---> Display menu option. It was just set to Generic but I had never picked an actual generic monitor type. I think I selected (dont have the notebook right in front of me) the Generic LCD display that supports 1024x768.

I found this solution by looking through the forums regarding similar problems where laptops running RH9 couldnt detect or properly adjust hardware. Kudos to the Linux community =)
