Red Hat 8 and Compaq Presario 2100 conflict?

Hi,
I am trying to install Red Hat 8 on my Compaq Presario 2100 and everything goes well during the install until I get to "Test CD Media." I have the option to do so or skip. The screen freezes and I can't do anything but turn it off. Does anybody know what the deal is or is there a known problem with the software and this Compaq or what?

i don't think it's compaq, unless it's model specific
i use a compaq (different model) and have always been able to skip the media test.
I did try to let it run with the media test once and it froze and fell down.

you might try cleaning the cd?
or just use the direxction arrow to change it to skip
(if you can)

I can't skip or do anything. I have tried the DVD version and several different burned copies of Red Hat 8 on CD-R's. In the past I installed SuSE Linux 8.2 ok. That is not installed on the laptop now, though. Only Windows XP.

I. same problem i had... try to disable usb legacy support in bios...
with me that worked
