Recompiling chromebook kernel to add NFS module

Acer C-710 chromebook with Ubuntu (ChrUbuntu) 14.04.1 LTS / 3.4.0 kernel

The NFS module isn't included in the chromebook kernel, is it possible to recompile and include this module?

There's another post related to this:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...zy-4175477128/

But doesn't deal with the root of the issue:

EDDY1: Not sure if you understand the issue, or I'm not seeing the pertinent information in your link.

To recap the information in the original links:

Link 1:

Already having nfs-common installed on a ChrUbuntu machine trying to mount an NFS volume returns the following.

mount.nfs: no such device

Link 2:

The NFS module is not compiled into the chromebook kernel.

ls -l /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/fs

So I am wondering if it is possible to recompile the chromebook kernel and include this module?

Have you tried
Quote:
grep NFSD /boot/config-`uname -r`
If it's not there you'll have to do a makeconfig.old for the older kernel & recompile

user@chrubuntu:~$ grep NFSD /boot/config-`uname -r`
grep: /boot/config-3.4.0: No such file or directory

user@chrubuntu:~$ ls /boot/
memtest86+.bin memtest86+.elf memtest86+_multiboot.bin

Then you need to recompile kernel or see if you've finished your updates. If you boot into other kernel try running same command.

Other kernel?

The original question is simply- Is it possible to recompile the chromebook kernel?

I'm under the impression that even though I'm running Ubuntu, it's using the stock chromebook kernel.

Yes it is possible to recompile the kernel I just find it hard to beleive that the kernel was updated & didn't recompile the same as the kernel you have. When you recompile you need to do makeold.conf of the previous kernel then you wont have to guess what you need.
