Unhappy Random Freeze: Mandrake 9.2 on Toshiba Satellite 1900

I'm running Mandrake 9.2 on my Toshiba Satellite, and randomly my laptop seems to freeze - the whole thing, all of linux, (can't ctl-F1 out), the power button, mouse, keyboard, even the "oh shit" keys don't work.

I can't figure out why this is happening, I'm running a windows partition as well, but no matter what I do, unplug the network, all peripherals, whatever, it freezes solid.

obviously this is an annoyance.

any help would be appreciated.

Does your laptop use ACPI?

If it does it when your fnas stops or starts, then use the noacpi boot option. e.g.
when booting and lilo is showing, press Shift and the write:
linux noacpi
If you use grub as the bootmanager itīs acpi=off
even better is to compile a new kernel. 2.6 supports ACPI in most parts

I got a Toshiba laptop recently and I have been experiencing some random freezes in fedora 1. My laptop is an old toshiba 7000ct so the odds our problems are not likely the same as your machine, I believe is a new model. However, in my wanderings, I've stumbled accross this:
http://www.linuxmanagers.org/piperma...er/000804.html

In my case it seems to imply something because my machine would often freeze when I was setting up my wireless card. But not always. So I think it could be similar. So, there is a suggestion to look into.....
