PuppyLinux v5.2.8 on Toshiba Satellite 1800-100
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some help getting Puppy Linux installed on this old laptop (Toshiba Satellite 1800-100 with 128Mb Ram) I have PL on a CD. Allowing the install/run to complete of its own accord results in a blank screen. I've figured out this is due to an xorg issue, possibly explained in this post here: http://michaelminn.com/linux/toshiba1800/ Ie, NoDDC needs to be an option in the xorg.conf file's DEVICE section. (However, since I've no got it working I can't confirm that this is the solution :) ) Anyway, by pressing F2 during launch and entering boot: puppy pfix=nox If I launch xorg-setup from the prompt then I'm told that it can't determine the display driver (it should be trident) so I get to choose a generic one. No worries, I pick 1024x768x16, which should work. But it doesn't. So I started editing the conf file to include the "NoDDC" option described above. Copying the conf file in its entirety from the link above doesn't work; more blackness. Cherry picking the monitor, screen and device settings doesn't work. Also: xorgwizard just blacks out. Any help would be appreciated... |
Note that I'm installing Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 "Finlandia".

Perhapps someone over at the Puppy Linux discusion forum might be able to help. Barry and company tend to be a pretty helpful and knowledgable bunch.

I'd go with xvesa instead of xorg on that old rig.
+1 on RockDoctors recommendation, it is a good one also. |
