Angry PS/2 mouse scroll wheel not working [solved]

Hello!

I have Gentoo linux at Compaq Armada 110 laptop (pretty old model). Everything works fine, but I have problem with mouse. When I installed Gentoo, it automatically detected my touchpad. After adding psmouse.proto=bare to grub.conf (at the end of kernel line) also my PS/2 mouse started working. Its simple Microsoft Optical Mouse with 2 buttons and wheel (which acts also as 3rd button). The problem is that the wheel is not working!

I searched few linux / gentoo related forums, googled, tried all the solutions I found but none worked for me. In xorg.conf file I tried ZAxisMapping, changig Protocol to auto, PS/2, IMPS/2, ExplorerPS/2, Emulate3Buttons etc etc etc.

My "mouse" part of xorg.con is here:
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Mouse0"
        Driver "mouse"
        Option "Protocol" "auto"
        Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option "Buttons" "5"
        Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
The problem is that wheel scrolling and clicking doesnt take any output when I cat /dev/input/mice (or mouse0, or event1). Using xev returns nothing for the wheel too

I even tried other mouse. But both my mice work in WinXP (on desktop) without any problems.

Im really desperate about what to do, please, anyone has any solution?

EDIT: Finally solved :P

I just needed to change psmouse.proto=bare at the end of the kernel line. It seems that "bare" protocol doesnt support scroll wheel. So I changed it like this:
Code:
psmouse.proto=imps

Great that you got it working! You mean you had to recompile the kernel! How did you come up with the idéa? Kernel docs?
