Proc throttling on Athlon XP-M / Mandrake 10

I am running Mandrake 10 on an eMachines 5312, and don't seem to be able to get processor throttling to work. This machine has an Athlon XP-M 2400+ processor, which I know supports throttling; various WinXP tools do indeed show the processor speed changing with load.

Under Linux this doesn't seem to work. I have "Enable performance profiles" and "Enable processor throttling" checked in the ACPI Config tab of KLaptop; however, /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/throttling still reports <not supported>, and /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/info confirms this.

Also, the only "performance profile" available in all the KLaptop options that offer a choice is "0 MHz"... I assume that, in a system with working throttling, there's an option here to select a clock speed.

What seems to be the matter?

Is Athlon XP-M throttling support working in Linux, or does it only work for Centrino/etc?

Although I can't help you with your problem I can at least answer your last question.

The CPU throttling in my Averatec laptop (XP-M 1700+) works fine in SuSE 9.0. So yes throttling works for AMD processors in linux.

Hi,
I am using cpuspeed-1.1 (http://carlthompson.net/Software) under Mandrake to change my CPU speed. My FSC has AMD 1400+ XP-M.
Did u enable the powernow_k7 in kernel? It is compiled as a module by default, so if it's not loaded, the throttling won't work.
