Problems with installing media support on Ubuntu.

Hi,

I have installed Ubuntu Linux onto my laptop. I am trying to add media support to it so that I can play dvds, listen to music, etc. I am following the instructions at:

http://www.oldskoolphreak.com/tfiles/hack/ubuntu.txt

The problem I am having is that I get a message saying that:

The GUI requires GTK devel packages (which were not found).

I upgraded the os before trying this, so I do not know what is going on here. (I am a newbie). Can someone help?

Thanks,

Greg.

An upgrade only upgrades already installed packages. You need to install the GTK development packages.

How to install GTK packages?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I am a newbie, and I do not know how to install the GTK packages. I have looked around the internet, and I cannot seem to find the GTKs, unless I did and did not realize it! Can you point me in the right direction?

Greg.
