Problems with HTC P3300

Since I'm trying to put the GPRS and MMS-settings through the cab-files from the Qtek-site that I got as an advice from a store-salesman into a friends HTC P3300, the PDA isn't recognized by Mandriva 2007.1.

I've tryed to get Mandriva 2007.1 to identify HTC P3300 when it's plugged in via USB, but nothing happens. Is it because I'm still using Windows Mobile on it or what?

As a matter of fact, I could use some help with installing Linux Mandriva 2007.1 Spring if it's possible on theese kind of PDA's.

Porting linux to a PDA is not an easy task. It takes a long time to reverse engineer ie. figure out how the device works and then develope an OS. Besides, this PDA uses a Texas Instrument processor TI OMAP850 and Mandriva is basically just for Intel compatible CPUs. A bit of googling found some evidence of porting linux to the HTC family but I did not find anything for this particular model.

A quick google didn't find any helpful information on connecting this device to a linux PC. If it isn't recognized as a mass storage device or other common device then it might require a special driver. You can look at the output of the dmesg command or the lsusb to see how the it is recognized.
