Problems with dual head display in a laptop

Hi,

I've been desperately trying to get my new 19" LCD to work with my laptop in a dual-setup. My laptop (a Dell Inspiron 2200) has a Intel i915GM chipset (ubuntu is using the i810 driver for the display). It is capable of supporting dual-head setup and I'm using it successfully in Windows XP.

After a bit of playing with the options, I have only managed to get the card to clone to the VGA out. But even this I'm not happy with because when I'm doing the cloning, the output to the secondary display (VGA) is at the same resolution (1024x768) but my 19" LCD can support 1280x1024.

Two things I wanna do but need help with:
1. Cloning the display at the external LCD's native resolution.
2. If possible, get the dual-head working with proper spanning.

I'm pasting my xorg.conf and the output of running "lspci" below:-

Code:
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

the link pretty much just states that you need to add another screen to set up extended display at different resolutions

i would recamend editing your your xorg.conf file and changing your driver to i915, you'd get better performance.
