problems isntalling 845patch on Dell 1100 in SuSE 9.0
I recently installed SuSE 9.0 on my laptop, overwriting a previous installation of Mandrake 9.2 (it was having difficulty with my CD burner). Consequently, I needed to reinstall 845patch in order to get 1024x768 resolution. I Downloaded the sources and followed the instructions at http://www.geocities.com/randomnumbergenerator2001/ but they are for RedHat/Mandrake or Debian systems.
I don't have any trouble untill I tried configuring it to start at boot-up. For RedHat, it says I should: echo "/sbin/845patch 10000" >> /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit For Debian it says: echo "/sbin/845patch 10000">/etc/init.d/845patch chmod +x /etc/init.d/845patch ln -s /etc/init.d/845patch /etc/rcS.d/S20-845patch And for other systems: "If you aren't using Debian or Redhat, then you could add a line ("/sbin/845patch 10000") to a similar startup script (variable by system)." I have neither an /etc/rc.d directory or an /etc/rcS.d directory and I know of no "similar startup scripts" (since I've really never used SuSE before), so what so I do at this point? |
