Problems Booting with knoppix 3.7

i'm a linux newbie and i previously tried mandrake 9.2, and messed up my laptop whilst trying to dual boot with winXP. So a friend suggested i try knoppix 3.7. Now my problem comes in during the boot.

"Looking for CDRom: /dev/scdo "
(or atleast my interpretation of it)
when ever it reaches this stage it hangs. I've managed to boot linux in failsafe but thats the only time it works. please Help.

try looking at these cheatcodes you type at bootup

check if bios and noscsi stuff helps

btw do you know if you have an atapi (ide) or true scsi cd ?

Thanx for the tip on the cheat codes but they still didnt work even when i used atapicd it jus gets to

"Looking for CDRom in: /dev/hdc "

and freezes up again.
i even tried " a poor mans installation" but when ever it gets to searching the cdrom it hangs.
any other suggestions?

no i dont think i have a true scsi or atapi cd
