problem with internet

I am using suse 10.1 and i have configured my broadband internet and it works perfectly, but sometimes if I unplug the ethernet cable and then again plug it back, the internet stops working, it makes sense but then how do i get my internet back, the only way i found out is to restart my laptop again after which the internet starts working perfectly again. Is there any way to avoid this mess and get my connection back without restarting my laptop, I mean like in windows there is an icon in the desktop which if i click connects to the internet, is there anything similar here,

when i configured internet i gave the option "boot at start up"

please help

Yeah, just stop and start (also known as "restart") the device the cable is plugged into; if it's plugged to your only ethernet card, then it's probably eth0.

There are multiple means, I guess. Try
Code:
ifconfig eth0 down && ifconfig eth0 up
for a start. That should work I think..what it does is bring eth0 down (the interface you use for internet) and then up, using the settings you have created for it. After that re-try opening your favourite web page LQ. You can also try to stop and start your dhcp client, which should bring the interface up as well; I don't know which client you use (dhclient for example) so can't help there; usually you just kill the process and run the client program again to start it. I suggest trying ifconfig first.
