Problem Loading Redhat 8.0 on Dell Inspiron 5150 Laptop
I am trying to install Redhat Linux 8.0 on a Dell Inspiron 5150 with the following specs:
Pentium 4, 3.06 MHz
512 MB RAM
I am receiveing the following problem:
I come to the redhat install screen and choose to install graphically by hitting enter. It says:
Loading vmlinuz ..........
Loading initrd.img ...............
Then it shows a screen with hardware information and hangs at the following part:
"Using local APIC timer interupts.
Calibrating APIC timer........
......CPU clock speed is 3056.5667 MHz
......host bus clock speed is 0.0000 MHz
cpu: 0, clocks: 0, slice: 0
-" <--- (This is a blinking cursor)
I think it is having trouble with the hardware but I am not sure. I have tried to use "linux noprobe", "linux skipddc", and "linux lowres" all of which resulted in the same thing. Also, I can install redhat linux 9.0 with no problem, it is only 8.0 that hangs like this. Unfortunately, the software I am trying to use does not run properly on 9.0 and has been tested for 8.0 so I have to get 8.0 running. If anyone has any ideas, please help. I am very new to Linux so please explain as much as possible. Thank you in advance.
