Problem in starting Ubuntu 10.10 in Dual-boot system !
 

I just installed Ubuntu in my laptop that already had Windows Vista.
It installed successfully but after reboot the GRUB Loader menu did not show up ...., the laptop directly ran Windows !
I rebooted it 4-5 times, but still no boot menu !

The 'msconfig' in Windows does not show any other OS installed on the hard disk, but 30 GB of disk space has been allocated for Ubuntu !

Please tell me how to solve this problem ???

That generally occurs when you install the Grub bootloader to the Ubuntu partition and not the master boot record.
Is this a wubi install inside vista?
Did you install Ubuntu on a separate partition?
Which version of Ubuntu? 11.04? Earlier version? Which one?

Windows is not capable of recognizing Linux partitions and usually shows them as unknown or unallocated.
You need to post the version of Ubuntu and whether it is a wubi install to get specific help.

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 Linux 2.6.35-22-generic !
I have installed this on a separate partition.
I had two drives in Windows.
I used 30 GB for Ubuntu from one of them .... !
like it was 100 GB before and now it's 70 GB, but no Ubuntu in the boot menu !!! :(

I have installed this version of Ubuntu earlier in some other computer the same way .... and that is working !

What should I do ?
If I re-install, will it again take up 30 GB in the drive ?? :O

Does that mean two separate hard drives or two partitions on one drive?
If it boots directly to windows that means the Ubuntu bootloader is not installed to the mbr. You will need to either create an entry in the windows boot file (google EasyBCD, download and install it on windows) or install the Ubuntu Grub to the master boot record.

I would suggest you post drive/partition information on your computer. You can do this by booting your Ubuntu CD, opening a terminal and entering the following command:

I had two drives in Windows :
C: 249GB
D: 225GB

During Ubuntu installation I allocated 30GB to it from the D: drive.
It installed correctly but, the computer boots directly to Windows !
I used bootable USB Drive to install Ubuntu.

Will re-installation help ?

How to install Ubuntu GRUB to the MBR ?

Is there anyway to uninstall Ubuntu from the disk in such a case .... so that the 30 GB space can be freed ???
