problem configuring pcmcia on a laptop

Hi everyone!

I hope someone can help me with this. I am still a newbie to linux.

I just installed Redhat 7.3 on my old laptop (A Chicony MP995, 400MHz, 64M RAM), and the installation went smoothly, except that I had to install with the command "linux nopcmcia" to prevent the installation from locking up. After install, the system locked up during boot, when trying to load the pcmcia package. The last lines on the screen were:

socket status 30000411
yenta irq list 0489 PCI icq 11
socket status 30000007

But when I prevent it from loading in interactive boot, Redhat starts up nicely.

Now, my final task is to figure out how to configure the pcmcia card manually, so I can get on the web.
I wanted to try the following in the xterm:

sbin/insmod pcmcia_core
sbin/insmod yenta_socket
sbin/insmod ds
etc/rc.d/pcmcia start

-but my system locked up solid after the second line, and I had to do a hard reboot.

Do any of you know, what's going wrong? Why is it so hard for redhat to find my pcmcia card? I guess the problem lies either in yenta_socket or an IRQ setting, but I don't know where to go from that conclusion.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Esben.
