Problem after updating Ubuntu 10.04 with GNU GRUB version 1.98-1ubuntu10
Dear follow members of Linux Question,
I have a problem with a triple system. Let me begin with some basic information. The computer: IBM X30 model 2672-GGC Intel Pentium III CPU 1,2 GHz 1 GB RAM SDRAM The operating system (in the order I installed them): Windows XP Windows 7 GNU Linux Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx The problem come after I updated Linux. This is the text: “GNU GRUB version 1.98-1ubuntu10 Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. Grub>” Before I updated the Linux OS, I could boot into XP or 7 or Linux. I would entered the GRUB, with the choose of booting Linux or booting into Windows booter, where I can chose between XP or 7. Now, I don't think this is a new problem. I just can't find a good search-string for finding my answer. My question is not so much how to solve this problem rather then how do I make a good search? Which word should I search for this problem with? Thank you for looking into my thread :) Yours Truly Leopold B. |
grub is like that sometimes. Do you have ubuntu live cd with you? try booting with livecd and reinstall grub with
Code:
sudo grub-install /dev/sda |
Tried but wrong code?

I have tried the code you gave me, but it dose not work. Perheps it is because of the hard drive type. I have an old PATA drive, not a modern SATA drive. The computer itself is more then a decade old. A bit slow, but it works :) . Is there another way of identfying the drives on the cumputer? Leopold B. PS. I will look up the launchpad. And for me spelling, I am sorry, but I don't use Firefox right now. IE don't have spell checks. DS. |
I got a idea and made a new search string for the problem. I found this intressting links:
* http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=55723 * https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2 I was going to test them, but I noticed that my IBM was starting to over-heat so I had to shut it down for now :( . It will be operational in some hours. |
