Unhappy Presario 1210US USB

Hi list!
I suceeded at installing RH 9 on Compaq Presario 1210US. Kernel 2.4.20-8, passing nousb at install and boot parameter
But I cannot get the USB controller to work. I changed ONLY the part of the configuration file for the kernel to build the USB support in. Surely uhci or usb-uhci (tried both), rebuild the kernel and it just freeze again, where the original kernel freezed. The same for kernel 2.4.21, downloaded from kernel.org.
I disable a lot of features and did't get any working kernel or it just freezed at the same spot.
I cannot make PCMCIA to work, but I don't need it. The NIC driver had to be compiled as a module, but that's it. Sound and Video are okey. I disable APM and ACPI but nothing seems to work, so that USB have any use; and that's what I REALLY need.
Does anybody have experience at enabling USB on a Presario?
Thanks

I installed SuSE 8.2 on a Compaq 2170US without a hitch. I did disable legacy USB support in the BIOS and set apm to off. I am using the stock kernel. Regular USB, PCMCIA, and ACPI work fine out of the box. I did have to manually enable ACPI to have it start at boot.
I seem to see more installation problems with RH than any other distro. Has anyone else noticed this?

Try the hotplug update from here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-hotplug/
http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=17679

Download both hotplug and base for rh9 and install.
See if that works with kernel 2.4.20-8. I was using kernel 2.4.22-rc2 before I used these updates. I was planning on a reinstall to see how it works with older kernels. Any 2.0 mass storage device locked up my notebook until I installed the update.

Let me know how this works for you.
