I have ACPI working problem free on my T41p laptop, but I would like to go beyond mere status information and have a functioning power saving setup.

I know the processor is capable of clocking way down, and I have freq control enabled in the kernel as is necessary. Is there a daemon I can run that can dynamically clock up/down the laptop to fit usage?

Is there a utility that can spin down the HDD when it is not being used? I seem to remember reading that reiser is incapable of spinning down while mounted rw, but I'm running XFS - an fs for which I have no solid information. :)

Anybody else figure out how to get power saving features to work?

Power saving demons

The two power saving demons I know of are cpufred, and powernowd. I don't know anything else about them besides their names. The information was found on the IBM Thinkpad mailing list (www.linux-thinkpad.org), which you might want to join since you have a thinkpad. Good luck.

OK, I have cpufreqd running just fine now, and that is a big help on the battery.

Is there a way to spin down the HDD automatically like in Windows?
