Power !?! (need more time unplugged)

Newb here, sorry,
Running MDK 10.1 on
Athlon 64 3200
512MB Ram

Wondering if there's any way to turn down the power on the system. Windows (don't flame me for the word please :P) scales back on power a bit when not plugged in resulting in about 2-3 hours of battery life.

Mandrake uses up everything in about 1 hour. (FC3 did the same thing)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Scott

Cpu frequency scaling is, of course, possible in linux.
It depends on how the kernel is configured though, and I don't know whether the 64 bit processors are supported yet.

check to see if /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/throttling exists. If it does, then you should be able to set the power with the command line or with the KDE "klaptop" tray applet.
