Popular Modems Please...

I'm a two week old with RedHat 9.0, but the main hurdle in throwing windowz away is the modem.

My hardware vendor knows little about supported Linux Modems:
Could you guys suggest some? (Preferably Internal)

I'm also looking at Mandrake 9.1 and Knoppix 3.2 as well, so cross compatibility yould be great.

Thanks in advance...

I know you don't already have a modem and you're shopping...
but this site might be a good place to start:

http://www.linmodems.org/

also do a google search for the linux hardware compatibility doc (which I think you can find at www.tldp.org in fact) and it may list a few modems for you.

As for compatibility with Mandrake or Knoppix, if its linux compatible, its linux compatible.
