Pitch is wrong on IBM laptop T30

debian based system (sparky) 686

all media programs vlc, banshee, exaile ... playing back the sound at a high pitch. 1.3 semitones higher

Is this a pulse or driver driver?

I'm not familiar with sparky. Sparky Linux based on debian testing? But it's possible to be a pulseaudio issue. Older versions of pulseaudio are basically hard coded for 48kHz, so if you're playing 44.1kHz sources it could be raw audio playing them at 48kHz instead of upsampling. Or various jackd settings at 48kHz since most midi samples are 44.1kHz derived (CDs).
