I have a hp ze4325us notebook and decided to try mandrake 9.2 on it. Well everytime I install it (tried 3 times) the computer freezes when starting PCMCIA. It goes into a total freeze, nothing whatsoever works. I got mandrake loaded by using the interactive setup at boot and choose not to start it. I then decided to try starting it while in KDE; same thing happened. I was wondering if anyone could help me by giving any information that will help. Im using the kernel that comes with the iso's, 2.4.22 i think? Want to upgrade to 2.6.1 but I want to fix this problem first. Any info will be greatly apprecitated!
Thanks,
Bif
ps: it does this with the card in or out during install and with the card in or out while in kde. It doesnt matter, it just freezes while starting the service.
a: Mandrakes Documentation online..
b: documentation for almost any distro, online..
c: this forum, several dozen times.. that's why we have a search feature.
Well will that still allow me to use a wifi card? I need the slot usuable, not disabled. The way you said sounds like it will just skip over the PCMICA slot.
Could you give instructions on how to upgrade the kernel to 2.6.0.1? I've been trying to install Mandrake 9.2 on my laptop for a couple days now, and it's been a big hassle so far because of PCMCIA. I don't want it disabled, however, because I have a wireless LAN card (netgear ma401) that is my only way to connect the laptop to my network and the internet. So upgrading to 2.6.0.1 will fix this issue? And are there any distributions out there yet that have the latest kernel already integrated? Thanks!!
A member (I think estatik) that posted near the middle says what you need to download and install and in WHICH order. I had to locate a few packages by myself but it was pretty easy. Kernel install is a breeze, my lilo edited everything to where it boots the new kernel. Hope this helps.

I dont have to have PCMCIA disabled anymore after switching so just upgrade and you should be fine.
