PC Linux OS Minime, wont start X

Just did a fresh hd install of PCLinux OS Minime and everything went smoothly. Grub is configured correctly so far as I can tell. My problem lies with the login: It gets to the X login screen and the only option is root. Username: root Password: root and log in. I get a quick flash of the localhost login screen, then it goes right back to the login screen. I have tried all of the session options as well, failsafe works but all I get is the terminal.

Is this a problem with X, or with the hd install?

You should have been given the opportunity after the reboot to set root and user passwords. Try the install again. Let me know how you get on.

well, the first reinstall made it worse, it just booted to the localhost login. The second reinstall worked perfectly it gave me the prompts like you said.

But now its just irritating, I hate brute force problem solving because now I don't now what was wrong in the first place.... oh well. Time for the setup and customization.
