PB iGo 6208 Laptop - No success w/ several distributions
Hi,
I'm trying to install Mandrake Linux 9.2 on my laptop My hardware is (if you need more info let me know): Packard-Bell iGo 6208 Laptop 512 ram 60 gig's HDD (linux on 33 gig partition) ATI Radeon graph card USB 2.0 (sitecom) card for an external 120 g HDD (although I've removed both and re-installed without the card without noticable differences) Mandrake: I've installed Mandrake several times, each time it hangs up on me about halfway the prog bar. Second time I boot it displays an extensive list of drivers and services, etc and then starts to list an EXTREMELY long list along the lines of: <abc01010101> bla bla bla bla [kernel] After 10 mins or so of this it reboots and does the same thing... If I start it in "failsafe" mode, I get a text prompt that doesn't react to anything (not sure if hanging though). Last output: Telling INIT to go to single user mode INIT: Going single user sh-2.05b#_ After this it's pretty much dead. At the beginning list of drivers I also get: modprobe: insmod ehci-hcd [failed] Knoppix Hangs... no much info there SuSe Live Eval Hangs also... last output is: Starting kernel PCMCIA I googled for PCMIA and read at several places that this is a common problem when installing Linux on laptops, although I haven't been able to figure out what to do  Any help is much appreciated! Anyone?
Would the included manual with the commercial package be a good source of info? I'd love to switch, but can't even try it out like this :( |
