i wanna enabled acpi so that i can use this autospeedstep thing (located
http://gpsdrive.kraftvoll.at/speedstep.shtml) and i think i understand, but at the same time i'm not so sure i do. i've never patched or compiled a kernel so i just wanna make sure i'm not about to do anything stupid.
so im assuming the first step is downloading the patch from acpi.sf.net. my kernel is 2.4.20-19.9 so i guess that means im supposed to download the patch acpi-20021212-2.4.20.diff.gz. the -19.9 doesnt matter here does it??? ok, so then i gunzip it and run "patch -p1 < acpi-20021212-2.4.20.diff" and it does its thing. at one point it asks (for patching file include/asm-i386/pci.h) "Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R?" the default is no so I left it like that. should I go back and say yes? ok, now the part I don't know how to do. how do I recompile the kernel with the acpi enabled and without screwing any other kernel settings up?
Thanks,
Mike
