Have a feeling this is going to be another zero reply thread... anyways.
I've got a brand spanking new Tungsten T5 that I'd like to get working under linux... prefereably with KPilot, but I'm not picky at this point. I'm using SuSE 9.3 with the 2.6.11 kernel BTW.
What's the best way to avoid getting useless replies?
Ask intelligent questions.
Tell people what you've already tried, tell them what happened when you tried, include any error messages that popped up. Explain what you've tried to do to solve them. Mention any reading you've done to try and solve the problem yourself so people don't waste time telling you things you already know.
For instance, "I plugged in my T5 and hit the "sync" button but it didn't work. It just gave the error 'cannot find /dev/pilot'" would mean we could tell you about updating udev's rules, or symlinking the actual /dev node to /dev/pilot, or how to point your software at a different /dev node.
But just "I have a T5 and would like to get it working" tells us nothing about your situation, so we can suggest nothing to fix it. There are a million reasons why it might not be working. In fact, from your original post, we don't even know if you've plugged the thing in yet or not.
We're not mind readers. We need you to tell us things.
It would be much simpler to find someone who has a T5 working and get them to relate how they accomplished this feat. Perhaps even get them to write a howto. You obviously don't have a T5 working with Linux, so there's really no reason for you to be reading or responding to this post.
A palm is not a palm, and I'm only interested in conversing with T5 owners who have their device working under Linux, not egomaniacs looking to instruct people on how to post a query.
It was good advice that was well-meant. What you do with it is up to you. I can gaurantee that you'll continue to get a lousy response rate with your current approach tho.
Either way, makes no difference to me. I'm no longer interested in helping. Good luck getting aid from somebody else.

Unfortunately you're right.... in both regards.
This is why I've largely stopped posting at LQ. I was googling to find more information on this subject and stumbled on this post.
As for getting the T5 to work with Linux - thusfar I have not been able to do it.
Apparently you can and many people have reported doing so.... however whenever I try, nada.
I gave up about 3 months ago and decided today to try again.
I hope you succeed where I failed. If so.... I'd love to hear what you did.
the updates come in the form of .exe's that need to be installed to the syn'ing computer and the hotsync'd to.
I have hard reset my Palm because I don't want to use it with my Windows machine anymore. I want to start over and use my Linux laptop. Unfortunately, with the hard reset (the full wipe) I lost the updates to the software... and the wifi card software. So I need to reinistall that... but I don't know how on Linux if that's possible?
