Orinoco_cs

Ok I'm running SuSE 8.2 on a hp Pavilion ze1230,

I am trying to use a Siemens SS1021 PCMCIA wireless-nic and the system log is spitting back this error. I try to ifup eth-pcmcia and get a different error I will post both:

first the kernel message:
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy cardmgr[1105]: executing: 'insmod -v /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB-athlon//pcmcia-external/orinoco.o'
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy cardmgr[1105]: + Using /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB-athlon//pcmcia-external/orinoco.o
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy cardmgr[1105]: + Symbol version prefix ''
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy cardmgr[1105]: executing: 'insmod -v /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB-athlon//pcmcia-external/orinoco_cs.o'
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy kernel: orinoco.c 0.11b (David Gibson <hermes@gibson.dropbear.id.au> and others)
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy kernel: orinoco_cs.c 0.11b (David Gibson <hermes@gibson.dropbear.id.au> and others)
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy cardmgr[1105]: + Using /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB-athlon//pcmcia-external/orinoco_cs.o
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy cardmgr[1105]: + Symbol version prefix ''
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy cardmgr[1105]: get dev info on socket 0 failed: No such device
Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy kernel: orinoco_cs: GetFirstTuple: No more items
richlappy:/var/log # Sep 29 09:04:49 richlappy kernel: orinoco_cs.c 0.11b (David Gibson <hermes@gibson.dropbear.id.au> and others)
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('

Now the ifup message:
Could not get a valid interface name: -> skipped

I have searched all in google and online forums and have had no positive results.

It doesn't seem that this Siemens device is actually a lucent/hermes/symbol chipset. What's the output of:

/sbin/cardctl ident

and, just in case its actually cardbus:

/sbin/lspci

From here: http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html

It may be a TI card, which isn't that great news...

Cheers,

Finegan
