Optimizing Battery Life of the Eeepc

I just got an Eeepc 1000ha, and the battery life is significantly better in xp as opposed to Eeebuntu. I was astounded at this, and I think that it's just something to do with acpi configurations, which mine are empty. So is there a way to extend my battery life a little, maybe limiting the screen brightness which seems to jump back to full after I move my mouse? And also, is there a better wireless driver for my Atheros AR242 wireless card? All suggestions and help are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Have a look at the posts on the eeebuntu forum, such as this one http://forum.eeebuntu.org/viewtopic....dc9ff96e2c86c5

You may also want to read the general info at http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/powertop/

I've was able to implement several improvements using the advice there, though my obsolete 701D's Celeron M processor does not lead to power consumption reduction via underclocking. You should fare better.
