Question Optical Disk Drive: no risk of damage when on the move?

Hello,
Am planning on getting a laptop, perhaps from Dell.com, because they have some low prices.

Just wondering, I plan on taking my laptop with me every work day from home to work and back again. Is there any risk of the optical disk drive (CD/DVD) from getting messed up? Or is it perfectly safe to bring it around?

If given the option, would it be better to have a removable/swappable bay, so that on days that I don't plan on using the optical disk drive, I could just leave it at home?

Thank you.

jeff

As long as you're not tossing it in the back of a pickup and driving miles on gravel roads, you should be fine.

If you REALLY want to make sure it's safe, get a padded carrying case. I've never heard of carrying a laptop around causing problems(except when people drop them); after all, laptops are meant to be used for mobile computing.

I agree that there is little risk of damaging the drive however, IMO there is more of a risk of damaging CDROM disks due to sun and heat.

Oh, yes. Never leave ANY sort of digital storage media in direct sunlight or near a source of heat.
