Question onboard sound not working.

I have a gateway m320 laptop running Kubuntu Breezy and the newest version of KDE. What do I need to do to get my sound card to start working?

just some extra info KMix says this:Sound drivers supported: ALSA + OSS
Sound drivers used: ALSA

and it says my audio chipset is intel 82801DB-ICH4.

sound

try locate alsaconf i.e.
$
/usr/sbin/alsaconf

btw see lspci -v and copy/paste audio soundcard
(toget the driver id) i.e. A97

lsmod is where your sound driver/utilities are installed

if alsaconf does not work then you might need to install alsa from scratch.

Check here if your soundcard is compatible.
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/

btw alsaconf needs to be in root.

I finally got it to work. I had all of the alsa packages except for libasound2-dev. Once I got it and updated everything the sound came on.
