hi
I have hp compaq nx7300 and I've installed fedora core 6 on it but it don't find modem.what should I do to solve this problem?
my modem is:Agere Systems HDA Modem
broadcom 440x
broadcom 802

I don't think most Agere modems are supported. You should go here and get the scanModem tool which is a small script that will pump out all the information regarding wether or not it is supported, where to get driver source etc. Just follow the scanModem link but read along the way.

I'v downloaded and install the last kernel on fedora 6,but after restart it sais that there isn't enough space and it returne to logon screen.
what can I do and how can I increase it and add some space?

You'll have to supply more information.
Boot into Fedora and hit any key at the grub boot splash for more booting options and then type (a) to add kernel arguments. At the kernel line, add a (1) to the end of the line after a space as shown below:
This will boot Fedora in single user mode which is command line. As root, issue the two commands posted below separately and post the output of each command for better assistance.

I'v solved this problem:
I've installed ubuntu!!!!
but now I have another problm now:
ubuntu doesn't recognized my modem,I used modemscan and this is modem data:

It appears there is a modem which is part of the sound card, the sound card should work, but the modem is not supported by Linux.
At the top of this form is an e-mail address to linmodem maintainers who have tons of experience in this field if you would like their opinion. As mentioned, you need to put the following in the subject field of your e-mail:
Replace "SomeName" with some name, and "YourCountry" with your country and copy/past the contents of this "modemdata.txt" file in the email, keep an eye on the archives as your case and their responce will show up there. There is a link to the archives on the first linmodems web page.
It also appears you have a pci modem called smartlink, which is supported by Linux. ScanModem also wrote a file called Smartlink.txt which will have the information as to where to get the source for compiling drivers. There is probably a pre-compiled binary for Ubuntu already where you won't have to compile your own, which should be mentioned in the Smartlink.txt if there is one.

If you do have to compile your own drivers, you'll need to make sure the following packages are installed:

gcc
gcc-4.1
linux-headers-2.6.20-15-generic
libc6

Installing those four packages should also install a few required dependencies. Install whichever ones are available when viewing the list of packages via system/administration/synaptic_package_manager, if some are not available off the CD, you may not need it.

Smart Link drivers are included in the repositories of a lot of the distros under different names such as "smart mod" - "lt modem" etc. If you will list your distro someone here may be able to give you the name or you can go to the Smart Link modem web site and they have the driver you can compile. If you're a newbie to linux I suggest trying to find one your package manager will handle.

They should be on the CD, use synaptic package manager as mentioned in a prior post to see if they are available off the CD and install from there if needed. Also read the Smartlink.txt scanModem wrote, it should have the instructions on what to do.
EDIT: Keep in mind, it could be a couple days before the linmodem maintainers respond, they do this in their free time.
