nothing happens after boot screen


i'm trying to install fedora core 4 on my compaq R4000. when i push enter at the boot screen to install in graphical mode it goes through the boot sequence and then goes to a blank screen and nothing happens. the same thing happens when i try to install in text mode. i'm new to linux, and i've looked all over for answers with no luck. please help

short answer: adding "nofb" to the boot command line can help.
