Not able to install ubuntu12.10 in my laptop!!

More than a month passed but yet I couldn't install ubuntu12.10 on my laptop.
I had been trying via unetbootin (frugal install, i.e. using bootable iso from hard disk). for my this try, you can see the below thread:
LinuxQuestions.org > Forums > Linux Forums > Linux - Distributions > Ubuntu
Can I use my .iso file of Ubuntu 12.10 to install directly in my hard disk?
OR
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...175457357-new/

Now I tried via flash drive but failed. Please focus on my usb install now. I tried via unetbootin as well as YUMMI. Both cases it messaged that iso file successfully installed on usb. But when I reboot and select usb, then nothing comes on screen except a cursor on top left screen blinking. That's all. In both cases (YUMMI and unetbootin) this happens. Before installing on usb/flash drive, i formatted even my flash drive with FAT32. Can anyone resolve my long standing issue.

It would help if we knew a bit more.

Does it have to be Ubuntu?
What's the box?
Has it got a cdrom/dvd drive?
Will it boot from usb? Can you set it to do so?
Have you installed a boot loader on the usb drive? What's the config?
What about UEFI?

When I wrote that I rebooted and selected usb, doesn't it make clear I have usb option in my BIOS setting.
Now I repeat, when I selected usb then nothing came on my screen except a cursor blinking.I have windows already installed and lots of free space is there in my hard disk where I want to install ubuntu.

Yes. It is clear. What kind of usb device do you have? What make & model.

I have usb boot option also but my usb drive still is listed under my hdd's in bios boot options.
usually you will see a + sign next to hdd all you have to do is select it & it expands, then move it up the list.

As far as your concern goes for selecting usb, it's fine becz I am able to select right usb. I was able to use the same usb drive to run Gparted. Gparted iso I installed via unetbootin in usb and then reboot to boot from usb. The same usb I used for making windows recovery bootable usb. But not woring for ubuntu12.10

Whatever OS system you have installed at the mo, first boot up your computer in the normal way.

When it reaches desktop and finishes loading the various applications, insert the DVD/USB memory stick, (give whichever one time to sync), then click on Start and Computer. When you see the DVD/USB drive, right click to OPEN its folder where its files are listed. Scroll down to SETUP and open that file. Find 'Instal' link and click once or twice, if necessary. From here on follow instructions carefully. This will instal right over any existing OS.

If you put your laptop on Boot Priority DVD which you obviously have, a USB should function from Boot Priority DVD as well and vice-versa for that matter.

I can't guarantee there won't be some unforseen error message or suchlike. Nobody can.
