Nokia N800 pointers please

Hi,

After reading macemoneta's excellent review of the N800 on linuxquestions I decided to purchase the unit.

The unit looks great, but the user's manual is b*o*r*i*n*g and says nothing about how one can use the N800 as a mini-Debian. How can I get a terminal? How can I edit /etc/apt/sources.list? Where can I get SSH and a good editor (something like gedit or for example). Is there some documentation online on how to squeeze the most out of this unit?

The PDF reader sucks (there is no way to get him to go to the next page in the fullscreen mode). Can I get xpdf?

One more thing: can I write a small script for iptables or install a firewall? Can I install nmap?

Thanks!

Hmm...

I was actually looking in to purchasing an N800 myself, also because of that same review on here.

Think I'll just keep an eye on this thread and see what comes of it before I make a move.

Thanks.

my first impressions are very good except for one thing which really bothers me: the white color on the screen is somewhat pinkish. and there seems to be no way to change hue/saturation/gamma/contrast etc...

other than that, its great

I would want to be able to perform basic server admin functions from it, so I would definitely need a terminal with ssh capability, along with a nice Vim editor.

And truth be known, I'd love to be able to replace it with an rpm-based os that uses a gnome desktop.

The N800 is able to run OpenSSH and xterm as well as a variety of other applications. I've not found too much I've not been able to do on it so far.

Here we are only talking of gui apps I hope?

Thanks to macemoneta and this thread, I'll now try to find a shop to buy it in Europe.

edit:
ok I thought maemo is only a gui toolkit. In fact it's a complete debian-based distro.

I've found the software catalog to be fairly comprehensive, considering the device size and form factor. It runs a modified version of Debian.
