Nokia n800 is it worth it?? need input before buying

I am very enthusiastic about linux especially after migrating from windows XP I did so at a good time because I would certainly not want to deal with the vista headaches that I have read about in other forums.Plus my winbook J4 is pretty much problem free running on SUSE 9.3.

Well anyways, because I want to support the implementation of linux in anyway I can I am contemplating on buying the Nokia n800. I would like your input as of ease of use, applications you installed and usefulness etc.

tell me as much as you want.

just to let you know, I am a college student and would like to use the nokia n800 as a digital journal (from what I have read the nokia n800 is virtually a non MS windows tablet pc) so do mention about student-friendly apps.

well as I mentioned earlier I welcome any input.

If freedom (libris) is not too important, it may be OK.

I'm waiting for the OpenMoko.

Whether or not your cellular company will be cooperating is another issue.

There is always the H9 by some Chinese company... They have apparently been released, but are hard to come by... An individual one costs about $800.00 but apparently orders of 500 lets you get them around $500 a piece... I haven't seen anything about anyone importing them to the West yet...

But they are a Nokia n800 killer,... 20 GB HD, 500 MHz ARM processor, 128 MB RAM, 7" touchscreen, SD card port, WiFi, PCMCIA card... etc.

Then there is always the PepperPad 3, which uses a x86 compatible processor, larger form factor,... similar specs...

As I have both 770 and N800, I would say that they are not journal for you. More or less they are internet experience. I like both of them, they are constantly on internet devices for you.

I enjoy using N800, it's fast and simple Internet access device, I don't need to boot laptop for reading stuff from net. Posting is different thing. So, if you have wlan access to internet and you are spending lot of time reading and accessing sites - device is wonderful.

What I also enjoy is the Linux. It allows endless possibilities and as I do have also Linux running everywhere, N800 plays nicely in team.

I have just heard of a device called the i-station G43, which while it ships with WinXP, can run Linux... They will apparently become available soon in Asia, and after the Summer in the West. It's an UMPC with a form factor about the size of a large PDA.
