Noisy Bips at the boot and after wrong command

Hi All I have just installed a Red hat vers 9 on my Laptop. Dell Latitude CPx.

When it starts... it does 3 noisy bips which embarrassed me :-) (am in the office) and it bips also for a wrong command... the noise is really a high owful bip bip!!

Anybody could help?

Sound Card detection says
Vendor: ESS Technology
Model ES1983S Maestro-3i PCI Audio accelerator..
May be I need the right drivers?? The fact is that the Play test sound is ok!!

Many thanks in advace.

Disable the speaker in the BIOS? :P

The soundcard thing:
If your sound plays ok, you should be right. Check your product specifications as to what actual chip you have, it may well be using the ES1983S chip, which would make the detection correct. Besides if the sound plays, no harm done right?

NOW, the three beeps on startup, when do they happen? right after you turn it on? or after linux boots, or during?

What sort of wrong command ? like if you type ;s instead of ls?

Do you have any PCMCIA cards installed? I've used a couple of laptops that beep as they bring the slots up, then beep when they find the cards. A handy 'feature' that I haven't managed to disable yet.

cheers

Jamie...
