No sound on Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100

Hello,

Another problem, which is about the sound on my lappy. I am using SuSE 10.0 on my Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100. Kernel and other stuff is default.

I don't get any sound from the speakers. I have brought the following information for to your attention. First one is from KMenu->System->Monitor->PCI and the second one is from lspci -n.

Code:

Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems: Unknown device 0001

Can anyone give me a hand with this?

Have you checked what YAST has as sound card? Does kmix show volume levels to adjust? Check LQ SuSe forum for entries with that sound chip. Check SuSe support forums for wiki or help files on sound setup. That is a commonly used soundcard/chip(i810?).
SuSe Admin. and Setup/Desktop guides can be downloaded for free if not on install cd/dvd. Bitbenderforums also has good Suse install notes and tips. Tuxmobile may have Suse install notes on your lappy. Good luck.

YaST recognizes my sound card. When I try to go through the configuration of the card, test sound in YaST do not work. And all relevant controls are set to the "maximum" sound level.

Sound worked in M$ Windoze [I booted up Windoze once and then went on with a clean, all-disk install with SuSE 10].

I will go on searching...

no sound

If Yast setup correct card, try going through kmix tabs and disabling "line Jack Sense" and "Headphone Jack Sense". Then try sound.
If that doesn't work, then,as root at terminal, try lsmod to see what modules are loaded. You should not have to do it with newer kernel but if intel8x0m is loaded then preventing its loading may get sound working.
Good luck.

Had similar problem

Fixed it by opening mixer (through Applications/multimedia/Volume Control)
and playing with switches within mixer

I am having the same problem. . . Not SuSE related, but it must have something to do with the way that linux handles sound. Ive installed 3 diff versions of linux (gentoo, ubuntu, debian) several times each. First install of debian sound worked fine, or maybe it was gentoo, I dont remember which--it was ten installs ago. But anyway, when i start the gentoo intall it recognizes my audio driver, but when i check /dev I see no dsp or audio, nothing that looks like it has anything to do with sound except /dev/synth (which i dont think applies here). I dont know if maybe the devices it tittled something cryptic. If anyone knows what this could be please help, its really annoying. I want it to just work again, like the first time, lol.
