Google is your friend.
I assume that relatively recent versions of redhat use ALSA.
You could switch to the root user, issue 'modprobe snd_intel8x0', switch to your user and use any mixer to raise your volume levels (Master and PCM). This is only temporary though.
To make it permanent, add snd-intel8x0 to your modprobe.conf and issue 'alsactl store' as root user.

What doesn't work?
ALSA? modprobing the driver? sound in general? Telling me that 'it doesn't work' doesn't help me help you.
As root, try starting alsa. (Don't know how redhat does this - Arch is a bit different than most in reference to its start up scripts.)
What do you get from the commands given above? (modprobe snd_intel8x0)

It shouldn't do anything. Moving to the next line is pretty much telling you that it's working correctly. You need to raise the volume levels on your card. What does the command 'alsamixer' do for you? (It should raise a mixer, where you can unmute and raise the levels of the Master and PCM sliders.) If not - I'm not sure what you need to do.

run $ alsamixer and change (un)mute "headphone Jack sense" if such a parameter is there.
