No Sound, Mandrake 9.1

G'day all,

I tried getting this Soundcard to work using RH9, with no luck at all, so I decided to switch over to Mandrake 9.1, and let me tell you, soundcard aside I much prefer MDK to RH hands down. But that's beside the point.

When I log in now I get the following message:

Code:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

So using the methods I discovered while fighting this thing in RH I did the following.

Code:

[tapout@localhost tapout]$ cat /proc/pci

You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

So my next question would be where do I go from here? I'm stumped again. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Oh also in my Lilo boot options accessed through the MDK control ceneter, There are 2 check boxes: "Enable ACPI" and "Force No APIC". The "Enable ACPI" is checked, while the "Force No APIC" is NOT checked. Should they both be checked, neither checked or what?

Thanks again.

SiS provides a driver for the 7012 chipset here but I have no idea if it works or not. It's certainly worth a try though.

Go here to see what I had to do to get Sound working with my SiS7012 based box:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...&highlight=701

Also if you look at the hcl, under Audio Cards and Other you'll also find some instructions.

If you find a simpler way (ie it works out of the box with a given kernel) then let me know.

Cheers
Amos
