Hi all,
I miss my beep. A forum search shows several people wanting to disable beeps. I want to enable mine.
CTRL-G and "echo -e '\a'" produce no sound. Ximian doesn't beep when I get mail. I don't get beeps when my battery is about to die.
But yet, I can play sounds, like say when I go to in Gnome preferences -> sound I can play the event sounds.
I've used aumix to turn "Spkr" all the way up.
I've also turned "Speaker" all the way up through the Volume Control GUI. (Note, when I launch this GUI, I see in /var/log/messages: "Feb 18 14:09:47 ralph modprobe: FATAL: Error running install command for sound_slot_1". Is this my problem? If so, where do I look to figure out more info? This does not happen when I run aumix)
I've found this thread:
http://kerneltrap.org/node/3014
Which offers a bit of an explanation, but no solution. How do I check if my kernel was compiled with this option? (I'm assuming it was.) I'm running 2.6.10-1.14_FC2.stk16 from linuxant.
Thanks for any help.
