The volume control buttons are extra buttons (normal keyboards do not have them) so most probably they won't work unless you'll map them to some commands with a special program. There are many available, and I have the impression that both of the major desktop environments, KDE and Gnome, have some "own" tools for mapping the keys for use. What you need to do is tell the system that "when I press this key X, I want this program Y to launch with these settings Z". I'd use Google for that matter; I myself haven't been interested in getting such extra keys work, for they aren't of so much use (tasks like that can be done more easily).
Then the av port..do you mean the normal 15-pin (was it 15?) connector you use to plug an external display in? If so, then all you have to do is configure the second screen so the X server knows about it. This might need some 3rd-party display drivers (if you have nVidia card, then nVidia's, or if ATI card, then ATI drivers, etc..), but not necessarily. Typically your Xorg.conf file holds the screen definitions, so you'd need to specify another screen in there, in the manner the first one is defined, but with appropriate settings. On some Linux systems (I've experimented with Ubuntu) you just plug the external screen in, and perhaps restart X, and that's it. On some other systems (I haven't done that with SuSE, so you need to consult somebody else) it takes a little tweaking. I'd recommend you update your display drivers, and see if there's a 3rd party tool for the screen; ATI Control Panel should be able to do that if you have ATI card, for example.
