My HP uses the ATI Mobility Radeon series and I run Red Hat 9 flawlessly on it. If the Compaq is the same machine as the HPs, then you should have little trouble. Just remember to tap the spacebar while the installer is starting so the integrated ps2 keyboard is detected. The only glitch I experienced.
I need to clarify my previous statement. I am using the VESA driver to run my laptop display, and it looks good. I don't play games so any advanced features of the chip are lost on me. If you need advanced features, I think some company is selling the actual drivers for the chipset.
