network installation to laptop: Does anyone use FAI ?

I have a laptop to install linux too, via the network card. I've tried useing fai to do it, but I can't get past the first part of the setup, it's just too confusing to me, I don't even know how to do most of the stuff, but I want to get something on the thing so it's not a 300 dollar door stopper.

are you installing from another computer with a distro on it, or via ftp thru the internet? never used fai, never heard of it, so i can't help that way, sorry
