Network Connections Status "Lost" When Returning From Hibernation
 

I run Fedora 13 on a Toshiba Notebook.

In Network Connections I use the "Auto Ethernet" connection most of the time and on some occasions I use the "Auto XXX" wireless connection (XXX being my wireless SSID).

When I boot the notebook up both connections start up and I manually disconnect the connection I do not want to use and I also right click on the Network Connection icon and uncheck either the "Enable Networking" or "Enable Wireless" option, depending on which connection I am not using at the time.

I have noticed that when I place the notebook into hibernation (FN + F3 on the Toshiba Notebook) that when I bring it back out of hibernation, both connections start up again and both the "Enable Networking" and "Enable Wireless" options are checked.

Why is the network status prior to hibernation "lost" when coming out of hibernation? Is this by design or a bug?

You did not configure Linux to default to one but start both connections and manually disabling one of the interfaces doesn't count as a permanent configuration change. Note if you move between locations regularly there are tools to automate connections by detecting plugged in ethernet cables and such.

I am a Linux 'newbie" and I thought that manually disabling one of the interfaces would disable the interface until I manually enabled it again or until the notebook was shut down or re-booted.

I'll do a search for the tools you mentioned
