I'm looking to buy a new Netbook and would like to know which is the best best for running linux without issues. I am currently running Linux Mint 18 cinnamon. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
a Netbook could be a bit low spec,
when compared to say, a Laptop.
if you can - try & boot a Linux Disk on the proposed machine,
the Linux Mint 18 cinnamon will require a reasonably good machine,
so you may be better in using a lighter Desktop Environment,
like the Linux Mint 18 Mate.
if you can get it:
- 2Ghz CPU
- 2 Gb ram
- 250 Gb SSD / 500 Gb HDD
or better, of course.
but then - - that will push you away from Netbooks, though.
I'm running Ubuntu 16.10 (development) Mate on an HP Stream 11 (Celeron N2840, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC) off a pretty much permanently attached 64GB low-profile flash drive with no issues. However, if you're looking for something with a bit more capability, this is not the netbook you're looking for.
If you want something larger than a "standard" netbook, but cheap, there's a HP 14-an013nr that can be found on Amazon for $200 right now. Quad core AMD APU, 4 GB ram, 32 GB eMMC, 1080P 14" lcd. I've been very impressed with the performance given the price, it's only real weakness is the battery life (not shocking given it's an AMD powered). But fantastic performance for the price.
